Eleanor Brody was able to pursue her passion for working in music whilst studying Law at Leeds University by being actively involved in the student radio station LSRfm, in her final year being appointed as Head of Music at the station. She has also been involved in gig promotions both at school and university.

Eleanor completed her training contract at Laytons Solicitors and it was during this time that she was able to develop her interest in music law as a result of having the opportunity to market and develop a music law practice at her firm. This has enabled her to practice as a music lawyer since February 2005.

Her work to date has involved drafting and negotiating contracts for individuals and companies across the whole spectrum of the music industry including the so called ‘majors’. She has also advised on rights issues for performers and been involved in litigation to protect her clients’ interests.

Eleanor makes it her business to be tuned into the Manchester music scene and can regularly be found at one of the local venues checking out the up and coming talent. She is also actively involved in the local industry, participating in industry events such as “Northern Lights” and the City College Music Convention.

Eleanor feels fortunate and excited to be involved in the industry from outside the capital, whilst at the same time she recognises the importance and value of having strong relationships with London. She is looking forward to building her bespoke practice at IPS Law in Manchester and intends to continue expanding the practice across the north of England and Wales.
